SEO is critical to any endeavor online.

If people can’t find you, especially organically, it becomes impossible to achieve any goal.

But what is SEO?

To many, it seems like some form of black magic.

So what can you do besides diving deep into learning SEO tactics or hiring an expert?

One of my favorite resources on everything related to search engines are Whiteboard Fridays with Rand Fishkin from Moz.

His Whiteboard Friday episode called Minimum Viable SEO provides an overview of what you need to do if you only have a few minutes each week.

I took the knowledge presented from the Moz episode and visualized it in an infographic that you can use as a checklist.

The Problem: You’re Busy

The problem is many don’t know the principles of SEO (partly because it’s always changing.)

And, even if we do know them, we’re too busy to implement a full blown SEO campaign (they take a lot of work!)

There are many types of people from bloggers to developers, marketers to designers who need to invest in SEO but don’t know where to begin or what SEO activities yield the best results.

Luckily Rand Fishkin is here to save the day!

The Solution: Minimum Viable SEO Tasks

The solution is to do the things that get you the best results for the least amount of time.

Or, as Rand aptly calls it: Minimal Viable SEO.

These are the bare minimums you need to be doing on a weekly and monthly basis, as well as every time you hit the publish button.

So check out the infographic below and create your own schedule so you can continually improve your SEO without breaking the bank or spending a ton of time.

And, if you’re looking for more in-depth knowledge on all things SEO, check out the Moz blog and their Whiteboard Friday vlog.

Bonus

If you’re using WordPress, an easy win for optimizing your site’s SEO is to use a plugin like Yoast SEO.

You can optimize each page with a set of key factors like alt tags, titles, and meta description to name a few.

It will also evaluate readability and highlight areas that need improvement.

Plus, it’s intuitive, easy to use, and their recommendations follow a simple red, yellow, green stoplight configuration.

Best of all, many of the features are free.

This is my go-to SEO software for WordPress sites and I highly recommend using it for both on-page SEO and site-wide SEO.
