Problem

Environmental Engineering Solutions, Inc. had an outdated website with limited functionality and a poor user experience. Stakeholders wanted to completely redesign the website from the ground up. The new website would need to be mobile-friendly, act as a resource for those wanting to learn more about their services, be a marketing hub for their business, and house their extensive blog.

Solution

The Environmental Engineering Solutions (EES) website was redesigned to include new functionality such as in-browser chatting, a redesigned UI, and simplified navigation. Blog posts and other content were updated and integrated into their new WordPress platform. The website was also optimized for and combined with functionality from 3rd party providers to create a centralized marketing hub for the business.

Process

Defining Success
After an initial discovery session with stakeholders and team members from EES, research was conducted to help conceptualize the overall UI of the new website. Marketers and copywriters were brought onto the team to assist with integration and writing copy. After conducting research, preliminary designs were created and tested with stakeholders. Findings were used to iterate on the designs and a prototype was created. Further iterations were created and the site refined until completed through an agile process.

UX Flows

User flows were developed as part of the research conducted for this project. Below are three proposed user flows most likely to be taken by visitors.

#1 Arrive via organic search, evaluate, contact via the contact form
Samantha is a hospital executive who needs to find a solution to ensuring the air in the hospital is being filtered properly. She arrives at the EES website blog from an organic Google search result. After skimming the post, she decides she wants to learn more and views the blog topics. She sees EES has published numerous articles on the subject and wants to explore its services. After reviewing their services, she contacts EES by using the contact form on the website.

#2 Arrive via social media, evaluate, contact via chatbot
Cyle is a construction supervisor who needs to have toxic waste disposed of properly. He arrives at the EES website via social media after seeing a link to one of the EES blog posts. He reads over the article and decides to do more research about the company by viewing many of the website pages. After he is satisfied, he contacts EES via the floating chatbot.

#3 Arrive via referral, evaluate, calls by phone
Jesse is a business owner who needs to ensure a high level of cleanliness on his factory floor. After being referred to EES by a colleague, he reviews their services and sees they have a professional, inviting website that is easy to use. Right away he feels more at ease and after reading more about the company, he decides to call them.

Reflections

Environmental Engineering Solutions, Inc. wanted their website redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. Incorporating marketing funnels, an extensive blog, and a wide range of services and industries into the project was a rewarding challenge. They have a digital hub for their marketing efforts that can adapt to new company focuses and changes in technology. After the launch, they have since included the website in social media and email marketing campaigns to further increase its value.
