UX Designer

Visuality, technology, and culture are near and dear to my heart. As a product of the ’80s, I was surrounded by a bright and optimistic American culture and new technology. I learned from a young age how to work with technology and different types of visual and cultural analyses. I wrote my first command lines in DOS at age 8 and took my first photography course at 12. Through exposure to these topics at an early age, I have a native familiarity with their principles. I carry these experiences forward and use them daily in my professional and personal life. After completing degrees in Anthropology and Liberal Arts, I decided to offer my skills as a freelancer -- everything from research to design to development. Throughout my freelancing career, I began to narrow my focus to User Experience.

To prepare for this new focus, I am currently enrolled in the Designlab UX Academy with an emphasis on design, and I completed the Usability Testing Bootcamp on Udemy.com by David Travis. During this period, I am polishing existing skills while adding new ones to my skill set through hands-on projects, readings, group critiques, and weekly meetings with a mentor. In addition, I am continuing to freelance and improve my portfolio.

Looking forward, I plan to gain employment as a UX or Product Designer. I hope to work for a medium to large-sized company that has a commitment to social values I share and is in the education, medical, or entertainment industries. One day I hope to lead a creative team that works closely with other disciplines such as development and research in a collaborative environment.

Anthropology & Water

Material Culture Studies
Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to new experiences. I love learning how other people live their lives. In my academic career, this focused on the intersection of cultures with the physical world -- artifacts and material objects with an emphasis on visuality.

Flow like Water
Water has always been a central part of my life from surfing to my love of aquatic life. I try to embody the traits of water into my life: adaptable, fluid, cohesive. For me, water is a way of life.

Past Lives

Teaching

While a graduate student, I taught Anthropology courses at UPenn as a Teaching Assistant. I learned how to quickly build relationships with students and hone in on exactly what they needed to succeed.

Business Owner

As a business owner, I have a valuable perspective on how stakeholders think and operate. It also afforded me the opportunity to expand my skill base, including development. I have experience with a wide range of disciplines as a result.

Anthropologist

As an anthropologist, I bring a unique perspective to research and design that can uncover findings and insights others may miss. From visual ethnography to interviews, I have extensive experience with research and applying it to visual communications.

Photographer

My design career began in photography. From this discipline, I learned the basic principles of design and visual communication as well as the fundamentals of digital photography.
